Ever heard the saying, “School Counselors are the heart of the school?” Well, who better to teach a lesson about Valentine’s Day than you, school counselor?!

With Random Acts of Kindness Day being right on the heels of Valentine’s Day, I’m hoping to kill a few birds (figurative birds, not literal; although I haaaaaate birds. They’re my #2 fear after sharks) with blended Valentine’s Day and Kindness lessons. After all, if you’re not kind, you’ll never have a Valentine, right?

1.) First of all, go get these super cute FREE conversation hearts conversation starters! These would be perfect for any of the following:
– Use them to accent a classroom guidance lesson. Get the students talking!
– Use them in a small group. These questions will help the students get to know each other!
– Ever drawn a blank on how to get a student talking in an individual session? These conversation hearts should help break the ice!

2.) We looooove this “Positivi-tree” that we saw on Instagram. It has all types of positive and kind words compiled by the students of Kinry Elementary School. This is so inspiring and a great reminder to the students to be kind! Plus the hearts and kind words work perfectly with both big weeks coming up!

3.) Valentine’s Day is a great time for us to hit the standards relating to families. The book, Love Is a Family, by Roma Downey is perfect for this. Yes! The same Roma Downey from Touched By an Angel! The book centers around a girl who realizes other families don’t look exactly like hers. This corresponding lesson helps students see that it’s not what their family looks like, it’s the love they receive from their family that’s important. This lesson is written in a way that it’s not imperative to have the book. It’s just an added bonus!

4.) Not gonna lie, this lesson makes our mouths water! This box of chocolates is adorable, and it’s a great way to get older students to think independently about ways to be kind. The included lesson plan comes with several suggestions of ways to use the lesson and activity. We hope it makes your day a little easier!

5.) We’ve already talked about these, but it’s worth talking about again. These Random Acts of Kindness activities and game are going to be so much fun and memorable for your students. The lesson contains everything you need from start to finish: Vocabulary cards, acts of kindness completion cards, and a word search activity, just to name a few.

6.) Freebies! Use these posters and bookmarks to spread kindness and Valentine’s Day cheer throughout your school.

So go celebrate Valentine’s Day! And if you use any of this, tag us on Instagram so we can see how it helped you!
